First owned by the Walt Disney Company, they were named after the Disney Movie, "The Mighty Ducks" which also became an animated series. They play in the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and their team colors are black, orange and gold. They have not won a Stanley Cup yet, but hold one Conference Championship title from 2002-03.
Though they missed the playoffs their first three seasons, the Ducks finished fourth in the Western Conference in 1996-97. They returned again in 1998-99, losing to the Detroit Red Wings for the second time before making it to the finals.
In 2003 the team qualified for the playoffs, meeting the Red Wings once again, but this time they swept past the team and then past the Dallas Stars but lost the Cup to the New Jersey Devils. Disney sold the team in 2005 to the team's co-founder Henry Samueli and his wife. They have pledged to keep the team in Anaheim.

The Ducks have been chosen by the NHL to compete outside North America on two occasions. The club faced Vancouver Canucks, opening the 1997-98 season in Tokyo, Japan. It's the second trek to London by the NHL; in 1993, a successful two-game preseason series between the Rangers and Leafs at Wembley Arena happened. This an exciting time for American sports, as soccer superstars move to America, and our own heroes are being exported, at least temporarily, to distant continents to showcase the quality of athletic competition we enjoy here in the United States. After an excellent season in which the Anaheim Ducks finished first in the Pacific Division, news of this London trip will interest many Ducks fans, all of whom will be thinking about next season, and where they'll be getting their Anaheim Ducks tickets from.
