The franchise holds five Stanley Cups, from 1929, 1939, 1941, 1970 and 1972. They hold two Conference Championship wins, from 1988 and 1990 and 21 Division Championships. One notable team member was Art Ross, who served as general manager and coach for 30 years. The name Bruins was chosen to represent an animal with speed, agility and cunning, and the brown bear was picked.
After their first season the team rebounded to finish within one point of the playoffs. Player Bobby Orr joined the team in 1966, becoming the Rookie of the Year and winning eight consecutive James Norris Memorial Trophies between 1968 and 1975. Many regard Orr as the greatest player of all time, bringing the team to the top of the league throughout the 1960s and '70s. In 1970 the team ended a 29-year stint without a Stanley Cup.
In what has become an annual end of season rite, the The Boston Bruins squad demonstrated their appreciation for their fabulous fans' loyalty by giving away their game jerseys to 25 lucky New Englanders after their final game at the TD Banknorth Garden April 7. At the signal of the final horn, the warriors in the black and gold, following a 6-3 defeat to the Ottawa Senators, approached their adoring legions of fans and proceeded their annual game shirt giveaway.
The Bruins collectively skated a lap of honor, giving souvenirs and wishes to their excellent army of supporters who have remained steadfast throughout the darker days of their 2006-07 campaign.
Bruins fans showed this season just how committed and fiercely loyal they truly are, and it was a particularly heartfelt gesture to them in the wake of an unsuccessful season.

The Eddie Shore Award for diligence and determination, chosen by the gallery Gods, went to Tim Thomas.
The Elizabeth Dufresne Trophy was claimed by Marc Savard. The award, which is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, is given to the player most notabl during home games. Boston Chapter Chairman of the Professional Hockey Writers Association Mike Loftus, presented the award. Loftus writes for the Patriot Ledger.
The John P. Bucyk Award, honoring the player most active in community and charity fields, went to Patrice Bergeron. The WBZ 3 Stars Award were, in order of First, Second and Third: Marc Savard; Tim Thomas; Glen Murray. The WBZ 3 Stars award goes to the players who contribute most to the team’s success over the course of the season.
