The team plays in the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Their colors are navy, red, white, black and silver. The team has yet to win any championships. After a 13-year-old girl was killed by being hit in the head with a puck during one of the Blue Jackets' games, nylon mesh nets were placed behind and above the goals.

The team's first season was a decent finish, though they did not make it to the playoffs. In the 2001-02 season the team finished next to last, only attaining 57 points. The next year started off with high expectations, however they slipped back into mediocrity soon after a good start.

Management changes were made, and sadly, the next year was a disappointment as well, however they did have the best record in January, and set franchise records for points and wins for the season. They placed third in the Central Division. For the 2006-07 season, the Blue Jackets set a franchise record of five power-play goals in a 6-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.
