Based in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Devils play in Continental Airlines Arena. The team is expected to move to the Prudential Center in 2007, which is being built in Newark. Their colors are red, black and white. They hold three Stanley Cup wins, from 1995, 2000 and 2003.

Originally started in Missouri as the Kansas City Scouts, the team became the Colorado Rockies after a move to the state in 1976. In 1982 the franchise relocated to New Jersey and they have been the Devils ever since. In the nine seasons prior to 2007, the team gained a playoff spot. They had done so in 17 of the previous 19 seasons as well. They hold six Division Championship wins and four Conference Championships.

The team has rivalries with both the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers. Their name comes from a Pine Barrens legend of a mystical creature, and was chosen through a newspaper contest. The team's 2006 win over the Rangers marked the first time the team would defeat the rival in a playoff series.
