They play in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Their colors are dark blue and orange. The team won four consecutive Stanley Cups in the early 1980s, but has struggled since that string of success. They hold six Division and six Conference Championships as well. Their biggest rival is the New York Rangers, as they are just across town.

In 1975 the team made one of the biggest turnarounds in the history of the NHL. They earned 32 points more than their previous season, and made it to the playoffs for the first time as well. They rolled over the Rangers in a best-of-three series in the first round. They then came back after being down three games in the next round to win four in a row and win the series. Only two other teams have done this, the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Maple Leafs. They would nearly do it again in the final round, but would be defeated by the Philadelphia Flyers. The team has returned to a position of respectability in that past few years, with new ownership and money to invest in free agents.

Islanders News

In his end-of-season conference with sports reporters, head coach Ted Nolan discussed a variety of topics pertaining to the Islanders. He spoke about his own performance this past season, as well as the contribution made by various players. Nolan explained the way it felt to arrive at a family like the New York Islanders, and what it meant to him to be at a club in such a well known sporting city.

"My evaluation of myself is probably harder than anybody else on the team. There are certain things I can improve on, certain things I want to improve on and there are certain things I will work on over the summer.

"Coming to a new organization you don't know the personnel and you don't know the players. Now I know all the players. I know the area. I know what to expect from individuals. Now it's my job to get better."

Nolan acknowledged his good relationship with Ryan Smith, describing Smith's contribution to the team as "immeasurable". Talking about keeping the player at New York Islanders, Nolan said, "Ryan is a winner. And you're not going to get him because of money or just because he likes the area. I personally have learned to love Long Island, but do we want to win? There's no question about that. We just have to relay the message to Ryan that we're here for one reason only, and that's to bring back the glory days of Long Island. You could see the atmosphere at the end of the season, and to have that feeling all the time will be something special. You need special athletes and special people to help you get to the next level and Ryan is certainly that."

Here's to hoping all Islanders fans get what they want next time around, and tickets for New York Islanders games are easy to come by, but deep down we know it's gonna be a struggle to find Islanders tickets, as it always is at the legendary Nassau Coliseum.
