Along with the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA and the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, they have been credited with making teal a popular color for sports teams in the United States. Though they hold two Division Championships from 2001-02 and 2003-04, they have never won a Conference Championship or Stanley Cup to date.
The NHL expansion in 1967-68 included a Bay Area team, surprising for the warm climate of the area. From 1991 to 1993, the team had 71 losses, 17 in a row at one point. In their third season the team moved to the San Jose Arena, renamed to the HP Pavilion, and known today as "The Shark Tank."
With this move so too did their record, making a huge turnaround, one of the biggest in NHL history. They began making it to the playoffs, with some mid-decade slow points. However they were back to the playoffs again in 1998, '99 and '00. In 2003 the team went through another big change, and the 2003-04 season was their best ever.
