They play at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MI. Though the franchise has yet to secure a Stanley Cup victory or a Conference Championship, they hold seven Division Championships. The team is named after the famous song by W.C. Handy. They joined the team when the NHL doubled its size in 1967, allowing expansion teams to crop up in six new places. However the new teams were limited by rules that kept the best players with the "Original Six" teams.

Though the team had a decent start, the 1970-77 stretch was less kind to the team. In 1974 they missed the playoffs for the first time. The team was in such financial peril, that they considered bankruptcy and reduced team staff to three people. Emile Francis was team president, general manager and coach all at once, serving as arena sweeper on occasion. But from 1980 to 2004, the team made the playoffs each year, the second longest active streak in professional sports in North America at the time.

Blues News

The Saint Louis Blues game against the Ottowa Senators on March 20th, 2007, will be unfortunately remembered for its allegedly poor officiating. The score was tied 2-2 with 16:46 left, and Brad Boyes put the puck in, when Senators goalie Martin Gerber took possession of the puck. Subsequent replays revealed the puck had gone a foot over the goal line before Gerber pulled it back with his stick and smothered it. The goal light failed to come on and officials didn't use replay evidence until play had resumed. According to Rule 78.6, once a game has restarted following a stoppage of play, in this case the time in which Gerber had held onto the puck, a goal cannot be awarded or disallowed.

The Blues lost another yet another "goal" with just 2:18 left when officials decided that David Backes' shot was covered by players. Replays once more clearly showed that the puck had gone over the line only to be pulled out by Gerber prior to the whistle. This was a vital blow to Blues players and fans, considering the recent amount of losses, and their collective misery only succeeded in fueling expectations for redemption next season. The Blues' Scottrade Center is the second best ticket seller in the United States, and number four globally. The arena has a terrific reputation for the loudness of the crowd during games, and for the prolonged foghorn blasts which accompany each Saint Louis goal, to the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In". At a town like Saint Louis, hockey tickets will always be a hot commodity, and the Blues will go marching on next season, hopefully minus the bad luck of that game in late March.
